Tagalong

Getting started

  1. Add the site

Open Tagalong on the page you want to test and add that site.

  2. Enter your container ID

Use a GTM container you control.

  3. Reload and QA

Reload the page, then watch tags fire as you click through.

Tip: pin Tagalong to your toolbar (puzzle icon → pin) so it's one click away on every site.

Troubleshooting

My container doesn't load

Reload after changing settings; check the site is in your list and turned on. If the site's security policy blocks it, turn on "Remove security policy" for that site. That fixes policies sent by the server, not ones written into the page.

Tags fire twice

Turn on "Replace existing container" for that site.

GTM Preview won't connect

Start Preview in Tag Assistant, enter the site URL, and keep injection on for that domain.

Why does Tagalong ask to read all sites?

Tags send data to many third-party domains, and Chrome only lets an extension see a request if it can access both the page and the request's destination. Tagalong asks only when you first open Inspect, and nothing leaves your browser.

How do I remove Tagalong's access?

chrome://extensions → Tagalong → Details → Site access.

Nothing shows on some pages

Chrome doesn't allow extensions on chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, and some built-in pages.

DebugView isn't showing my events

Turn the toggle on for that tab, reload, and check you're viewing the right GA4 property. Events can take a minute to appear.

A vendor says "Loaded, no data yet"

Its script loaded but it hasn't sent anything. Many vendors only send data after an action, like add to cart.

Report a problem

Email [email protected] with your Tagalong version (bottom of the popup), the page URL, and the output of Copy QA summary.
